For
many years, slaveowners
recognized that an educated Negro is a dangerous Negro.
They
were afraid of the heights that Africans in America could achieve if they were
given the chance.
They
knew that knowledge is a mighty weapon, and
that African American would
surely use it to gain their freedom.
This
Graduation Day you have shown that you are not afraid to learn.
Continue to strive for a good education.
Be
strong enough to use the weapon of knowledge to uplift yourself and your
people.
That’s
what W.E.B. Dubois did. That’s what Thurgood Marshall did.
That’s
what you are doing on Graduation Day.
Congratulations!
